Abominable Snow Cone

I wanted to let you know more about the release of my first production toy based on my art, made possible by Martian Toys. The Abominable Snowcone is the 3D manifestation of my Cryptidbits series painting by the same name. Imagine a 50 foot snowcone monster loose on your neighborhood streets chasing after the ice cream man who imprisoned him in a icy hell for years. This cherry monster is ready to exact revenge on all those bratty kids who bit into his smaller brethren….

The Abominable Snowcone is a 3 piece set: a 7 1/4 inch tall Snowcone Monster, a 2 inch ice cream truck and a handy spoon ready to serve up some icy menace. Comes packed in a blister pack inside a box that I designed.

I will be at New York Comic Con this week spending most of my time working in Martian Toys booth (#203). I will also be doing a signing there on Thursday from 10am to noon. The Abominable Snow Cone will be available in the Cherry flavor and the Blueberry flavor is an NYCC exclusive in an edition size of 150. Both will retail for $125 each (or both for $200 at the convention only).

After NYCC, you can pre-order your Cherry Abominable Snow Cone on October 12th or pick one up on the general release date of October 30th at martiantoys.com or select designer toy retailers.

A few new art pieces.

In the past two weeks I've been spending most of my time as a handy man, dealing mostly with plumbing. My family and I have been settling into a different home here in San Antonio. We lived in our last home for close to twenty years and decided we wanted to live with more outdoor space, surrounded by more nature. It's been really time consuming, but I'm happy with the new surroundings and feel good to begin painting in this new space. I'll share photos as I get things cleaned up.

I will be starting the next round of Refussufix tonight, but I wanted to let you know of a few new paintings available now.

I was invited to take part in Lyric III, an exhibition curated by Glenn Barr at Interstate Gallery in Detroit. All the art is musically themed and I chose the song "Disorder" by Joy Division to work from. That is one of the many songs that reminds me of my youth and all the things I went through in those times. You can see all the art created for this show at their website. You can find my piece here.

I was able to complete two 8x10 paintings during the move. You can find them in my shop. There are plenty of prints and print sets from previously released art available there as well.

Refusuffix 01-05

I have started up a new series of small paintings titled Refusuffix (Refuse [trash] + Suffix [add to end]). I did a lot of thinking on last years Cryptidbits and wanted to do something in the same manner. The whole idea on this one is that the body pieces can interact and be changed around and stacked with other sets. I imagined animals and other creatures left in a world with our garbage. I see them as tough scavengers that are always on guard searching for their next meal or looking for new ways to adapt to living in this land of waste. Like last years Cryptidbits, I will release 5x7 print sets containing the five prints, starting with 1 through 5. I foresee releasing five every six weeks or so with a total of 40, but I'll keep you up to date on when I'll be putting them online. The prints will be post card style as before, enclosed in an archival sleeve sealed with a signed and numbered label, each set being $12 plus shipping. The original paintings will also be available at $300 each. You can find them up in my shop tomorrow (Friday, July 3rd) at 1pm central time.

The bottle is empty.

I don't often share things going on in my personal life, but I have come to a certain realization about who I am, or at least what I hope is who I used to be. For almost the last decade I started to slowly sink into a really dark place. It's really a build up of my life as a whole. My youth was consistently filled with frightful moments and neglect, which I never really have taken the time to understand and release. It has only been buried under forty-two years worth of extra mental stress. It seems like maybe I have only been rolling through life, hardly in control. It's been a blur, a wave of numbness – a constant see-saw of anxiety and sadness. My mind had always told me that my existence is pointless with every negative word pressing above it.

Only a few days ago, I had the thought to finally stop and think about how to stop it and came to recognize what was happening with me. I've been full of toxins for good reason and either I allow it to take me down or I let it all go and climb out of this. I want to live happy. As soon as I took a peek beyond the dark clouds I see I have plenty to be grateful for. There are so many wonderful people all around me, with my beautiful wife and two daughters on top of it all. So much to be happy for; I just never really knew how to acknowledge it. I know I need time to rebuild myself, but it makes it easier to move forward knowing that there is no more room for negative thoughts in me. I painted this bottle to represent this moment - to help me remember.

Thank you all who have ever sent me positive feedback. I apologize if I may have not replied, but I will do better to make it known that you are appreciated.
